Who doesn’t love a good mystery?

A question that has besieged the minds of countless people before us. And for good reason! Who doesn’t love a good mystery? The anxiety, the intrigue, the anti-hero who is always just a few steps short of catching the culprit and solving the case…it isn’t anything but a great recipe for success and a good time. Now, a bookstore dedicated to just that? Sounds heavenly. Mystery Lovers Bookshop is that place and has been a powerhouse in the mystery genre since they opened their doors in 1990.

Located in Oakmont, PA, their lovely independently owned bookstore surrounded by loyal customers near and far. Twenty three years ago, Richard Goldman and Mary Alice Gorman, started Mystery Lovers Bookshop and turned into the successful store that it is today. Richard Goldman developed the data base behind the successful website and Mary Alice Gorman encouraged the development of mystery writers and their craft. Laurie Stephens is the current owner and has continued to help Mystery Lovers Bookshop grow, both online and in the community of Western Pennsylvania.

In 2010 they won the Raven Award for their contribution in mystery writing and for their annual event, the Festival of Mystery. They have an MLB Newsletter that is published 6 times a year and weekly email blasts are sent out updating customers on what is going on in the mystery genre world. In order to keep in demand with their online community, Mystery Lovers Bookshop has a fun and interactive website that is a great customer service tool for residents of PA who are unable to make it out to their in store location.

However that isn’t to say that Mystery Lovers Bookshop doesn’t know the meaning to great customer service. Always calm in the face of a packed crowd (and with this store this is a general occurrence) the staff of MLB is always willing to lend a helping hand to a customer.

Mystery Lovers Bookshop is very involved in their well read community and always welcome new authors and favorite authors. Audiences of over 1,000 come to hear from their favorite mystery authors such as, Neil Gaiman, Lemony Snicket, and Ann Patchett during the Pittsburgh’s Art and Lecture series in which they participated in. Coffee & Crime events on Saturday mornings promote new authors touring different cities on their book tours. Local authors are always welcome to promote their newly released books during hosted Pub parties. Great meeting and networking opportunities for readers to meet the authors of their favorite published pieces. Their famous “bathroom wall” consists of signatures from famous authors who have attended one of their events or have visited the shop.

The shop caters to readers everywhere and especially their die hard mystery lovers. Their book store is stacked with rare finds and their website is brimming with a wide selection that is sure to keep the most fanatic mystery lover satisfied. They not only carry a wide variety of different types of mystery books but also encourage readers and new authors to write mystery novels.

It is easy to see why Mystery Lovers Bookshop and its corresponding website are so successful in their endeavors. Above all else, they love their customers as much of they love their mystery novels and those who write them. It’d be a crime not to stop by the next time you’re in town.
