When stacked one on top of the other, the books at Blue Bicycle Books reaches a whopping 1,565 feet, a drastic comparison to the Saint Matthews steeple which is only 265 feet. And the stack only continues to grow.
Founded in 1995, Blue Bicycle Books (then Boomer’s Books) is a local bookstore located in Charleston, South Carolina that has over 50,000 volumes, including a large and comprehensive collection of used, rare and new Charleston material. Other popular sections include history, architecture, military history, Civil War, eastern religion, science, philosophy, gardening, poetry, hardback classics and literary fiction.
Blue Bicycle Books has been voted Charleston’s best used book store five years running, and for good reason. An integral part of Charleston, Blue Bicycle Books is constantly giving back and participating in the community. They annually participate in Charleston’s Young Adult Book Festival as well, the owner of Blue Bicycle, Jonathan Sanchez has directed the LILA’s Poets in the Schools for the past five years which works to build a strong tradition of poetry in downtown Charleston’s only public high school.
Blue Bicycle Books is always opening their doors to local businesses and authors, Pressque Publishing being a fantastic example. Pressque Publishing is a prestigious local Charleston publishing firm, who has had great success with Blue Bicycle, featuring titles such as Salem VI: Rebecca’s Rising by Jack Heath and John Thompson.

Blue Bicycle Books is an independent, local bookstore that has an intelligent, kind and hardworking staff who knows the importance of a good book. An eclectic bunch including a personable cat named Purdy, The BBB (Blue Bicycle Book) staff is always ready to help a customer or offer a word of advice.
Recognizing the importance of keeping children connected to the arts, Write of Summer is Blue Bicycle Books’s creative writing camp for kids. In 2013, store owner Jonathan Sanchez and Sara Peck will lead seven sessions in Mount Pleasant and downtown Charleston.
Long past the heat and pride of South Carolina, lies a great and hearty independent book store that understands both quality and quantity. Blue Bicycle Books is a local wunderkind where books, people and creativity go to grow.
