Most independent booksellers have always understood that in order to run and own a successful independent bookstore and business it is important to remember the core values and purpose in which the business was founded. By maintaining an activeness within the community, a humility with the customers and a resourcefulness with keeping the business alive, independent bookstores across the country have made a name for themselves and an impact in their community.

In Rhode Island, there is one bookstore that truly emphasizes all these characteristics and more, and if nothing else, Barrington Books knows what it means to keep things local and to keep things great.

Since its opening, Barrington Books has been one of those neighborhood favorites. In light of big box chains and online retailers, Barrington Books has managed to not only survive, but thrive, grow, reinvent and remain a pivotal center of its community.

Located in the heart of picturesque East Bay, Barrington Books has made it abundantly clear that shopping, eating, living and breathing local is vitally important to them and the vision they wish to bring to the community.

being “local and independent” is all about creativity, personality, vibrancy and variety!

Barrington Books has so much to offer to all of their clientele. With a friendly, uniquely interesting and intelligent staff, Barrington Books is not only willing to offer a helping hand but they’re willing to share their opinions and expertise to the customers that frequent this wonderful bookstore.

One of the best aspects of this bookstore is that it’s kid friendly. Not only does it have a “Kids Indie Next List” but every Thursday morning, Barrington Books hosts Story Hour in their fantastical Children’s department. Several theme-related story and picture books are read that are geared towards the pre-school set, followed by craft time allowing the children to express their creativity based on the fun facts and stories they just heard. Story Hour is free of charge and open to the public.

With a large and comprehensive independent bestseller list, its apparent how serious Barrington Books is about staying local and independent and praising those that choose to do the same. And in return, they, as an amazing bookstore deserve praise. So if you are ever in Rhode Island, stop by and tell them how great they are. I guarantee you won’t want to leave.
