Located in Portland, Maine, Longfellow Books is self described as the place for new and used books on the peninsula. Set on the mission to stay local and independent, Longfellow Books makes it clear that they (and want their customers to) eat, read, shop local.

Keeping Portland local is an exceptionally vital aspect of how Longfellow Books chooses to run their bookstore.

Like most independently owned businesses and bookstores, community is the foundation to success.

A strong pillar in the Portland, Oregon community, Longfellow Books has made the decision time and time again to contribute to and incorporate the community in their venues and events.

Author events and books signings are a common occurrence at Longfellow Books. Interested in bringing authors to their readers, this bookstore recognizes the importance of author to reader interaction.

Longfellow has quite a few book clubs that they offer including but certainly not limited to The Mostly Harmless Book Group (a book club dedicated to the scifi/fantasy genre), The International Book Group (a book club centered around mysteries from all over the world) and Box o’ Chocolates Book Group ( a book club that has a little bit of everything, including great food and drinks).

Open to any and all people that may come across this bookstore, these book clubs are fun, intelligent and allow for some great customer to customer interaction.

Longfellow Books has partnered with Kobo to bring reading to the online world. With over 3 million books, Kobo brings the greatness that is this independent bookstore to the world wide web.

With a staff that is both caring and intelligent, Longfellow Books is number one in Portland for charisma and brains. Available to help at a moment’s notice, this bookstore allows for their staff to pick and choose some of their favorite books and pass them off to their customers and interested readers.

Longfellow Books is an independently owned bookstore with a passion for staying local and involved in the community. In Portland, this bookstore has so much to offer and so much drive and of course, like all indie bookstores of the same nature, so much heart.
